This probably was the most unique of all of the visits I had had in a long time. When I was invited to go to lunch with a colleague, he asked “does eating off of a styrofoam plate throw you” as in would I be turned off by that. When we are talking Bar-B-Q (BBQ for the simplicity of typing), absolutely not! He told me we would go to a little hole in the wall he knew.

Ambiance: And a hole in the wall it was! The building was an older smaller ranch style house at one time. It was converted into a literal little hole in the wall. Two-thirds of the restaurant was kitchen and prep, the other third was a seating area that at full capacity might seat 28. However while I was there was a steady stream of to go’s coming and going. And get this, you ordered and got your food from a hole in the wall! Ok so it was not really a hole but an opening with a counter none the less. The flat screen tv in the corner showing FoxNews, MSNBC, or CNN almost felt out of place.

Menu/Price: Somewhere I got a picture of the menu and the “hole in the wall”. At some point I will post it but know this, prices for everything were all under the $10. They referred to anything potato related as “taters” which was truly awesome! They also had Nehi on the fountain and for that day only they had glass bottles of grape Nehi. Who could pass that up?

Meal: Huge sandwich that was served double dipped in a very spicy vinegary sauce. I used a fork because the bun had pretty much soaked up a lot of this sauce and would have made using hands impossible. Yes I at the bun too because that sauce was worthy of attention! The red skin mashed taters we’re the best thing I think I had had come out of a hole in the wall!

Service: No service to speak of, you went up ordered they made your plate you sat down and threw away your styrofoam plates… unless you are lazy and left it for them or the next folks that sit down. The short southern draw speaking chap that seemed to be running the place was a riot. He asked me if I wanted it double dipped, and not know what that meant I asked my comrade. The chap then told me (before my comrade could answer) that it means “I’ll make it pretty dang hawt!” I was like, “let’s do it!” so he did. At some point found out that I was visiting from Iowa (probably from the ID I showed when I paid with credit) and asked as I was leaving how I liked it. I told him it was spicy enough that if I am ever in the area again, I’ll be back and you can triple dip it!

Overall: I defiantly will be visiting this place again if I am summoned to visit our corporate offices in the future. I would have liked to actually spent a bit more time there just taking in the culture but as always duty called. 1 Fork and 1 Knife is the rating here, and easily could be the full 1 Fork, 1 Knife, and 1 Spoon but I feel further research is warranted and desired 🙂

Address:Smokey Pig Bar-B-Q2520 Louisville RoadBowling Green, KY 42101-7136270) 781-1712 The Dish: Pulled Pork Sandwich Red Skin Mashed TatersGrape NeHi in glass bottle (W00t w00t!)$9.30 (Tax and tip included) Grade: 1 Fork, 1 Knife While I was visiting our corporate offices, I reviewed a few local restaurants.
