{"id":462,"date":"2013-01-02T07:31:35","date_gmt":"2013-01-02T13:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.travway.net\/?p=462"},"modified":"2013-01-02T07:31:35","modified_gmt":"2013-01-02T13:31:35","slug":"well-guess-i-was-wrong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/travway.net\/index.php\/2013\/01\/02\/well-guess-i-was-wrong\/","title":{"rendered":"Well Guess I was wrong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So on 11\/9\/2012 I posted &#8220;<a title=\"Bengals Season is toast\" href=\"http:\/\/www.travway.net\/?p=180\">Bengals Season is Toast<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The title more or less stated my faith in the reminder of the Bengals season along with their chances of going anywhere. \u00a0So let&#8217;s do something fun and refute my post from then.<\/p>\n<p>I started out with stating that I am not a fair weather Bengals fan, and I want to reiterate that point. \u00a0I love the Bengals, and it is a love\/hate\u00a0relationship\u00a0(as mentioned previously). \u00a0I then went over my thoughts of their draft picks from 2003 through 2012. \u00a0I then went into a short tirade about scouting. \u00a0While I cannot change the draft picks or the scouting department, I will say that we have found a gem in\u00a0Vontaze Burfict. \u00a0I still wish we had more than three scouts but I have to give credit where credit is due. \u00a0Speaking of which&#8230;<\/p>\n<div>Mike Brown. \u00a0There is no shortage of Bengals fans that despise Mike Brown, and I am \u00a0probably one of them. \u00a0I say probably because his trade of Palmer to the Raiders was probably the most hands down most one sided trade ever initiated in the NFL. \u00a0Mike Brown, Mike Browned the Raiders. \u00a0Sure Kirkpatrick (our 1st 2012 1st round pick thanks to the trade) probably won&#8217;t be a Darrel Revis, Deion Sanders, or Charles Woodson. \u00a0He might turn out to be a Johnathan Joesph, Leon Hall, or Brandon Flowers though. \u00a0Mike obviously has been know to take risks (Odell Thruman, Chris Henry, Vontaze Burfict, Adam Jones, Andre Smith&#8230;). \u00a0The sad\/good thing is that it looks like Mike Brown knows what he is doing.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I did touch on Bungling, and I will say that the Bengals have a way of beating themselves with penalties and silly mistakes and never recovering. \u00a0Since the original post on 11\/9\/2012, the Bengals are 7-1. \u00a0Let me type that again so it sinks in. \u00a07-1. \u00a0They went from being 3-5 to 7-1 finishing 10-6. \u00a0What causes this?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Coaching, which oddly enough is another area I touched on. \u00a0I don&#8217;t know what Marvin and his staff have been doing but I only hope that they keep it up. \u00a0Marvin has taken the Bengals to the playoffs four times (including this year) over his ten years in Cincy. \u00a0Not bad when you look at it like that. \u00a0Plus a big monster is now gone, back to back playoff seasons (2011 and 2012). \u00a0That had not\u00a0happened\u00a0since 1982 (I was two years old at that point in time). \u00a0The next big monster to overcome is winning a playoff game (has not\u00a0happened\u00a0since 1990). \u00a0Getting the playoffs is next but Marvin really needs to get a playoff win (or four in one year \ud83d\ude42 ) under his belt, otherwise he will become another Andy Reid.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Which now that Andy Reid is officially fired, I believe that makes Marvin the second longest tenured head coach in the NFL after\u00a0Bill Belichick.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here is what matters in snapshot form.<\/p>\n<p>At 11\/9\/2012<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 12px\">Overall Offense Rank by 17th<\/span><\/li>\n<li>23rd Rushing<\/li>\n<li>11th Passing<\/li>\n<li>Overall Defense 21st<\/li>\n<li>22nd rushing<\/li>\n<li>16th passing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At 1\/1\/2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Overall Offensive Rank 22nd<\/li>\n<li>18th Rushing<\/li>\n<li>17th Passing<\/li>\n<li>Overall Defense 6th<\/li>\n<li>12th rushing<\/li>\n<li>7th passing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Defense wins championships, however our offense needs to really start clicking. \u00a0A lot of that revolves around our lack of running game. \u00a0That being said I am looking forward to the rematch and truly believe we can beat the Texans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>WHODEY!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So on 11\/9\/2012 I posted &#8220;Bengals Season is Toast&#8221; The title more or less stated my faith in the reminder of the Bengals season along with their chances of going anywhere. \u00a0So let&#8217;s do something fun and refute my post from then.
